Why I’m Running
As both a middle school teacher and a parent with kids in our district, I have seen firsthand how school board decisions ripple into classrooms and impact families. I believe our schools work best when every child has the chance to thrive, when teachers are supported, and when parents are partners in the process.
A Teacher. A Parent. A Voice for Our Classrooms.
Student-Centered Excellence in Connection & Belonging
Every child deserves to feel seen, respected, and supported in their learning. I will foster schools where every student experiences belonging and every family knows their perspective matters. I will advocate for school board goals that contribute to welcoming, inclusive, and safe environments and strengthen social and emotional well-being through processes, structures, and partnerships.
I will advocate for safe, supportive policies that protect the well-being of students and staff and champion social-emotional learning as a key component of academic success. I will continue to support the district’s partnership with the Jed Foundation to prevent youth suicide and strengthen mental health resources.
A great education is about more than test scores. I will champion a balanced curriculum that includes core academics, the arts, experiential learning, and pathways for both college and careers. Every student should have the chance to discover their strengths and actively participate in their educational journey. I will support full implementation of the district’s local literacy plan, in alignment with READ Act, to enhance teaching practices and ensure access to rigorous instruction that improves literacy outcomes for all. I will ensure clear pathways when designing targeted strategies and systems of support to address disparities, remove barriers, and improve access to learning.
I know from experience how important it is that teachers feel supported and valued. Decisions made at the board level should strengthen classrooms, not add hurdles. I will advocate for resources and policies that help teachers stay energized and effective. I will work to ensure teachers have access to professional learning and development that is rooted in evidence-based research, supporting best practices in instruction and assessment in every classroom. I will advocate for a rigorous, flexible curriculum that meets students where they are at and advances learning, recognizing and supporting each child’s unique path to success.
Minnetonka is known across the state for academic excellence and innovation, but like every Minnesota district, we are entering a time when funding will be tight. We cannot simply tax or fundraise our way out. I will work to protect the programs and opportunities that make our schools exceptional while finding creative, efficient ways to stretch every dollar.
I will ensure budget decisions minimize the adverse impact on students in the classroom. I support strengthening the budget without adding that burden on taxpayers. I will advocate for legislation that supports increased funding for public schools.
I support voting "Yes" on the building bond referendum. By voting "Yes," I vote to improve safety and security throughout district facilities, new science classrooms, physical education gymnasiums and performance venues at the middle schools; a new small group collaborative instructional spaces at all schools; and remodeling of counseling space and expanding cafeteria space at the high school.
As both a parent and an educator, I know the value of open communication. I will work to strengthen trust between the board, schools, and families, making sure decisions are transparent and parents feel heard. I will work to support creation of board procedures to detail implementation of policy, where not yet detailed. I will expand opportunities for families, staff, and students to engage and be heard when establishing annual goals, measuring impact and beyond. I will continue to support holding open meetings and remain accessible to the community.
I will be especially committed to collaboration and unity over division.
